Community Recycling Center
The District owns and operates the Community Recycle Center and the two landfills that serve Moab. The Moab Landfill, located on Sand Flats Road about ½ mile up from the recycle center, collects tires, yard and construction waste and is open to the public. All residential and commercial waste goes to the 80 acre Klondike Landfill (Class 1 facility) near the Moab airport, where it is buried. The landfill is not open to the public but tours of the facility can be arranged if scheduled ahead of time. The SWD also runs Spring Clean-Up for all Grand County residents, programs for recycling, safe disposal of household hazardous waste and electronics, and is currently conducting a pilot program for commercial composting. Scroll down on the link below for the hours of the recycle center and landfill.
The Center is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm.

The Solid Waste District and Recycling
The Community Recycling Center was started by the nonprofit organization Canyonlands Community Recycling in 1991 after the Solid Waste District announced they were going to close the center. In 2010, the Solid Waste District took over running the Recycle Center and managing all recycling operations. Global markets for recyclables have dropped significantly, which means that much less money can be collected by selling recyclable materials, however markets do adjust and fluctuate. .Extending the life of the landfill, helping lower pollution, protecting natural resources by providing materials to mills for making new items, all contribute to savings and a healthy planet, which we need to live.
The Recycle Center is subsidized by landfill fees collected and transient room tax monies allocated for operations at the Klondike Landfill. Many people believe that a portion of local tax money funds recycling, but this is not the case. No tax money collected from citizens is used to fund solid waste operations.

Green Solutions
Green Solutions closed their business effective March 1, 2019. We thank them for their 15 years of providing curbside recycling to the community. We hope a new pickup service, one that sorts items for processing locally, will start up very soon.
Monument Waste
Monument Waste provides all residential trash collection for Moab residents located within city limits. Monument is currently offering single-stream, curbside recycling pickup to Moab residents. (While we recognize that it is easy to dump all your recycling in one container, it is a dirty form of recycling that we do not recommend. A percentage ends up landfilled, and a percentage is shipped to unstable overseas markets.) Customers are able to order cardboard-only dumpsters. Scrap metal can be dropped off at Monument, and a fee may be charged.
Moab Solutions
Moab Solutions is a volunteer group that promotes the benefits of the respect, rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle lifestyle through projects anyone can help with. The mission is to reduce and eliminate the waste of materials and human potential while nurturing the well-being of the natural world. Moab Solutions works to protect and restore natural areas, help the homeless help themselves, and promote the benefits of Respect, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle practices.
Resiliency Hub
The mission of Resiliency Hub is to enhance well-being on the Colorado plateau by integrating infrastructure, ecosystems and economy. We provide education and practical opportunities to rethink, retrofit, and regenerate our community.
Resiliency Hub is the new name for Canyonlands Community Recycling which was the organization that started the recycling center in Moab in 1991. They now work towards creative reuse of resources in our community, helping minimize the impact of the load on the recycling center and landfill while working towards a more sustainable community.
Their current programming includes the development and management of the CommuniTea Garden, hosting the Upcycled Art Party and Trashion Show, collaborating with various groups to promote waste reduction and creative reuse in our community.
